Separate reasoning, browser, and secrets
The model or workflow engine should not automatically receive every browser credential or infrastructure permission. A broker can issue narrow actions or short-lived secrets to one session. The browser should run under a dedicated identity and network policy rather than inheriting an administrator’s environment.
This separation makes it easier to revoke access, inspect activity, and replace a session when the automation enters an unexpected state.
Use a standard control channel
WebDriver, WebDriver BiDi, and browser-specific developer protocols can expose navigation, DOM interaction, events, screenshots, and network information. Choose the smallest interface that supports the workflow. Do not expose debugging ports to untrusted networks or treat them as authentication mechanisms.
Control channels should be reachable only from the automation service or a protected broker, with session-level authorization.
Constrain destinations and actions
Allow lists, network segmentation, transaction limits, and tool-level permissions can reduce the blast radius of an incorrect plan. High-impact actions—sending messages, publishing content, purchasing, deleting data, changing account recovery, or accepting legal terms—should require an explicit approval policy.
Automation must also respect destination-site rules, rate limits, and user authorization. Remote execution does not grant permission to bypass access controls or anti-abuse systems.
Capture evidence without collecting everything
Useful evidence can include action traces, navigation events, screenshots around approvals, tool inputs and outputs, and final state. Logs should be protected because they may contain page content, personal data, or credentials. Redact secrets and set retention based on the real audit need.
A live observer or replay path helps a person understand what the agent did and recover when the site changes.
Design a stop condition
Every agent session should have time, step, cost, destination, and error limits. Repeated authentication prompts, unexpected downloads, new domains, privilege changes, or requests for sensitive information are useful reasons to stop and request review.
